The Zip Code Bucket List

Print Email

Enough with the bad news already; I think it’s time to have some fun! Or at least start planning on having some fun.   I got in a conversation with someone the other day about “bucket lists”.  I’m assuming everyone is familiar with the term, but if not, it’s a list of things you would like to accomplish before you kick the bucket.  As I let my mind wander, I realized that I didn’t have enough items on my bucket list, and from talking to other people, I know that others are in the same boat.  So I decided instead of worrying about things that we can’t control, it might be more fun and beneficial to focus on things we would like to mark off our bucket lists.

The interesting thing about a bucket list is it can be anything from the extravagant (going on an African Safari) to the economical (riding a tandem bike).   I know from my conversations with our readers how creative everyone is, so I’m excited to hear what’s on everyone’s list.  I would also love to see the pictures you’ve taken of yourselves doing something on your own bucket list.

To get the ball rolling, here are a few ideas from people I’ve talked to about this:

  • Watching the space shuttle lift off.
  • Seeing the northern lights.
  • Going to Coney Island on the fourth of July.
  • Completing a mini triathlon.
  • Dancing in a rain storm.
  • Scuba diving at the Barrier Reef.

So let the ideas begin!

Here are some bucket lists from our neighbors!

My bucket list gets longer every year as I cross one off,I add one on. The one I want to tell you about just happened to come to pass this July. It was for me to open my own business that caters to women. I just opened a women\'s shoe & accessorie boutique at the border of south Summerlin - called Spotlight Shoes & Accessories. The story behind it was when I was attending art college in Wisconsin I had the unfortunate and scary experience of being stalked and battered by a boyfriend that I dated for three months. He stalked me for three years. During that time period I had to invest in court cost and restraining orders with what little money I did make. I couldn\'t afford new shoes or clothing with college expenses and trying to protect myself . I thought if ever I had a chance to help out women that fell into that type of situtation then I would. I moved from Wisconsin to Las Vegas to get rid of the idiot, but\" having my own business to help women\" populated on my bucket list. Now twenty years later here I am doing what I have always thought I could do. My Aunt Pat from Wisconsin came out last September and when we talked about our bucket list - she mentioned having a shoe store with fashion and comfort choices for women. Our discussions lead me to use my design degree to create my logo of the two red high heeled shoes in the center of a spotlight. Our interior design was the next step. I am a great fan of musicals and balck and white movies and comedies, so our spotlight theme continued into our interior. I drew up the plans and started seeking a location for our new adventure. With the careful guidance of my awesome husband, Kevin and the tile and building skills of my brother,Allen, the realization of fullfilling a bucket list quest came to fruition with a lot of work - sweat and yes some tears it finally came true. Part of our goals for the store is to help support our local community by donating new shoes to Safe Nest - acharity for helping battered women get back on their feet and also helping to support Breast Cancer awareness. Thanks for letting me share one of my bucket list projects. Diana Lucero 702-810-9621

Back in 2004 my sister and I decided to go on a whirlwind adventure down under. We ticked quite a few things off our bucket lists: scuba diving in the Great Barrier Reef, white water rafting, watching the sun set at Ayer\'s Rock. We even did a few things that weren\'t on our bucket list, like eating a live witchety grub. I don\'t recommend it unless you\'re really, really hungry. One of the best adventures, though, was a day long rappelling excursion from the top of the Blue Mountains in Cairns to the forest floor. It was an unforgettable journey...scary...but memorable.

I wanted to see a bald eagle in person in it\'s environment. I went to Alaska the end of June & got to see what an amazing bird it truly is. I have several pictures, but only could download one.
